Ngorongoro Conservation Area has its own authority and permit system. Build the permit around your complete visit: transit, overnight stays and any planned crater descent.
Separate permit
A TANAPA park booking does not replace an NCAA permit for Ngorongoro.
Crater descent
Confirm crater service charges, a licensed guide and current descent arrangements; conservation entry is separate.
Complete visit
Include the correct visitors, vehicle, dates and overnight arrangements in the official booking.
Park costs sit alongside your vehicle rental, fuel and overnight stays. Work through the categories below rather than treating one headline price as the cost of the whole visit.
01Visitor entry & conservationFor each traveller
Check the correct nationality or residency category, each visitor’s age and the charging period for your dates. Carry the identity or residency documents supporting the category you book.
02Vehicle entryFor the actual 4×4
Vehicle charges are separate from visitor charges. Use the registration and tare-weight category of the vehicle supplied for your journey; ask Eagle Overland for the correct details before making a park booking.
03Camping & overnight staysFor each booked night
A rooftop tent does not include a campsite reservation. Check public or special campsite arrangements, the number of nights and people, and whether accommodation inside a protected area has additional authority charges.
04Crater & special activitiesFor the experiences you choose
Ngorongoro crater descent is a separate itinerary item from conservation-area entry. Guided walks, boat trips and other special activities may need advance arrangements and additional charges. For a crater visit, confirm licensed guiding and current access arrangements. Check the inclusions of each booking.
05Tax & the final totalFor a like-for-like comparison
Check whether a published figure includes tax, what currency applies and which dates it covers. Use the itemised official quote or booking total for your planned visit before payment.
Published tariffs can change and may carry an earlier validity period. Confirm the current official total for your travel dates. TANAPA tariffs

The details travellers ask about
Before you drive in.
Clear answers for a complete park plan.
Are park fees included in Eagle Overland vehicle rental?
No. Vehicle rental estimates exclude park fees, camping fees and other third-party costs. Your final quote confirms the agreed inclusions. Plan park costs separately alongside your vehicle, fuel and overnight budget.
Does one permit cover TANAPA parks and Ngorongoro?
No. TANAPA manages the national parks in this guide. Ngorongoro Conservation Area is managed by NCAA and uses its own permit system. Plan the permissions for every protected area on your route.
Do we pay per person or per vehicle?
Both categories can apply. Visitor conservation or entry charges and vehicle charges are separate parts of the budget. Camping, accommodation-related charges and special activities may add further items. Check the official quote for your visit.
Does a rooftop tent include permission to camp?
No. A rooftop tent is your accommodation equipment. You still need a permitted, booked overnight location and any applicable camping or other park charges. Confirm the site before arriving.
Is Ngorongoro transit the same as a crater descent?
No. Passing through the conservation area and descending into the crater are different itinerary choices. Use the NCAA portal to include the activities and permissions required for your complete visit.
Can I assume every permit allows 24 hours and re-entry?
No. Check the validity, entry and exit conditions shown on the current permit for your park and visit. Do not plan an overnight stay or a second entry using a general rule taken from another park or an older tariff.
Can Eagle Overland help with park planning?
Share your proposed parks, dates, group size and overnight preferences with our Arusha team. We can discuss how the entry plan fits your route and vehicle setup. Confirm the scope of any booking or permit assistance in your final quote.
